COYOTE VS. ACME (2026)
Dave Green | 2026 | USA | 1h41m | Presented in the original English audio with English subtitles
Warner Bros. spent years trying to make sure nobody ever saw this film. Just to save a few bucks at tax time.
COYOTE VS. ACME was completed, tested well with audiences, then shelved by the studio, which initially planned to write it off rather than release it. The decision caused a huge backlash across the film industry and turned an unreleased Looney Tunes comedy into one of Hollywood’s most notorious buried movies.
Then it escaped.
And the punchline is that once people finally saw it, they discovered Warner Bros. had for 3 years buried a genuinely very funny film.
The premise is perfect. After decades of being flattened, exploded, launched off cliffs and injured by defective ACME products, Wile E. Coyote finally decides he’s had enough and sues the company.
Will Forte plays the struggling lawyer who takes his case. John Cena represents ACME. What follows is part courtroom comedy, part live-action Looney Tunes cartoon and part corporate satire, built around the entirely reasonable question of whether a company should eventually be held responsible for repeatedly selling rockets, catapults and explosives that immediately blow up in the customer's face.
What makes COYOTE VS. ACME work is that it understands the original cartoons. It doesn’t treat Looney Tunes as something that needs to be reinvented or apologised for. The timing is fast, the physical comedy is ridiculous, and Wile E. Coyote remains exactly what he should be: determined, ingenious, completely doomed and impossible not to root for.
If you grew up watching Looney Tunes, there is a lot here to love. If you didn’t, you really only need a sense of humour. I think it's the best live action/animation combo since WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT and I’m very happy to see Wile . E. finally get his day in court.
